View Full Version : Best ride on for 1 year old

DS turns 1 in 2 weeks. We already have his birthday presents, but want to get him a ride-on toy for Christmas. We saw the Retro Rocket for a good price ($29.99) at Costco, but aren't completely sold. What do you recommend as a first ride on toy? We're looking for value, but durability and long term use are also important.

Thanks!

I don't know what the Retro Rocket is like, but I'd go for lightness above all else. Lachlann is great at steering his cheapie plastic TRU ride-ons, but he does so by lifting up the front of it and turn it as he pushes himself around. Colwyn does this, too. It's easy for them because the cheap ones are light.. we have an expensive, metal, HEAVY one that neither boy uses a lot because it's so hard to drive around.

For what it's worth, our oldest cheap TRU ride on is nearing it's second birthday (Xmas present when Colwyn was 1), and looks new. And that's with constant all-day-long usage. We've gotten the ones near the bikes, they're always stacked up in a big pile, lots of different character ones and whatnot.
