Hi. DD is 5 mo. old and is awake more than asleep when we are out. I am looking for a smaller toy that she will not get bored with so easily. I am interested in the Tiny Love fruity pals but I think they may be too big to carry around. My diaper bag is already busting at the seams. Any suggestions would be great! TIA! :)

My son loved the "whoosit" made by manhatten toy company. They are available everywhere (target etc).

My DD's favorite "out and about" toy at that age was a set of plastic keys that I got from the grocery store for about $0.69.

She did also like the Whoozit and Winkle from Manhattan toys.

I'd suggest the sassy lively links or any small toy from Sassy or some of the smaller wooden toys from haba. The lamaze toys (celeste the sun, max the monkey, etc.) are also great for that age, but probably bigger than what you're looking for.

My DD loves the small wooden toys from Haba and Selecta. We also used a wooden pacifier chain (with a clip on the end) to secure it to her stroller or car seat so that it couldn't end up on the floor. She has now figured out how to undo the clip, so I attached this toy last week and she loves it:

I think the Fuity pals are way too big :) . My DD is 6 months. We always bring plastic keys, the basic ones by First Years. They are a favorite. DS1 loved them too. She also really likes the FP Crinkle Ball. It's big but packs pretty flat. She has a few Infantino cloth toys that are small and that she likes to chew on. DD also likes the wooden teethers and pacifier chains by Haba. Oh and she has a super soft doll, I think it is a Learning Curve Eden doll, that she likes in her car seat. Kathe Kruse makes an adorable dolly teether that I want to get for DD. http://www.oompa.com/cgi-bin/item/KK74172?oompaItem=Kathe%20Kruse_Rainbow%20Baby%20( Yellow) (they come in tons of different colors.)

Ditto. Buy several sets though - ours disappeared so quickly! Another idea is a small playsilk - very easy to pack but would require interactive play til she's older. GL!

Thanks everyone! Those are great suggestions! There is a world outside of Fisher Price and Tiny Love! I will definitely get DD a set of plastic keys. I never considered wooden toys before but those Haba toys especially the Maxe from Haba are adorable! I like the wooden pacifier chain too.
Thanks so much everyone. :)

Just wanted to second the Skwish listed above--DD loved hers and still plays with it!

Whoozit is one of DS2's favorites. Celeste is a big hit, too. DS2 also (at that age) loved a rubber bead "necklace" (it's too short to go around the neck, though) - I think that the First Years makes them. They are everywhere for about $2. He would just hoot with delight when the necklace came out!

They are the Infantino peek and play pals. Got them at Target.

She liked the dog one so much that I got her the bug one also. They seem a little young for my almost 6 mo DD but she will play with them for hours. It clips onto DD's infant seat and she just seems fascinated by the ball inside the toy. She pulls on the rings and watches the ball jiggle around in the viewing window. Hmmm...I'm just noticing the similarities between her and my cat....

She seems to like her plastic keys too. She seems to have more fun throwing it on the ground though! :)
