Thanks ladies! I knew someone would be able to point me in the right direction! (And it helped immensely to know Gund makes them...helped eliminate all the TMX links from my searches!)

Has anyone seen one IRL or online somewhere? Something huggable, not too big and unable to utter annoying electronic babble or move on its own? ;)

Build-a-Bear Workshop used to have them, but not this year apparently. The online Sesame Street store has an extra large and jumbo version ($55 and $125 respectively :o ), but nothing normal sized.

TIA for any tips!

I'm not an Elmo mama, but I remember when people have asked this before. Gund makes several ones. I just did a quick Google for Gund Elmo and tons of hits popped up.

JC Penney & Dillards has them in the children's dept. I just got one for DD a few weeks ago.

Depending on the age of your little one--as most with the hard eyes are for 3 and up-- they make an all soft Elmo--eyes and everything called My First Friend Elmo. He is machine washable too! Babies R Us carries it.

Got one at Wal-Mart a year or two back, but I've seen them there since then. He's pretty big and was $10-12.

We got one last year at Wal-Mart for $12. When Corinne decided it was going to be an "in-the-crib" lovey, I knew I needed to hunt down an extra in case she ever got sick on it and it needed washing. I got an extra on ebay. (BTW, she did get sick on him the other day, and I threw him in a pillowcase and he washed and dried beautifully!! I felt like a member of the Mafia shoving him in the pillowcase, but that's another post! ;)

Here's a pic of it: http://tinyurl.com/vjl63

(I tried to get the picture in the post, but it was HUMONGOUS so I did it this way.)

HTH!
