Small fish tank

DS wants a fish for Christmas (ummm, Tara if you are reading this you are 100% to blame for this :) ). Any suggestions on small tanks that require minimum maintence? I'll probably get the tank soon and then grab some fish (umm, again Tara, the fish has to be blue - sound familiar/) on Christmas Eve just to make sure they are still doing well Christmas morning.
