How are they? are they good for older kids? The amazon reviews say older kids like them, but who knows. what sets do you recommend? do you skip the table with geo trax? None of our friends have GeoTrax, so we don't know how they are. maybe it would be good to have something different that none of the other kids have?

Before i go off and get the Costco set (assuming i can still find it, LOL), I just want to make sure i asked all the right questions.

Any info appreciated. Can you tell i don't know what i'm doing? HA

TIA!!

We love our Geotrax. My mom bought a starter set for ds' 2nd birthday. Ds is now almost 4.5yo and our collection has grown. We have a small Thomas set but he prefers the Geotrax.

In the beginning we had to do most of the building while he directed us. Now he can build well though sometimes the elevations are still tricky for him.

With Geotrax you can do push along play as well as use the remotes for the battery operated engines.

Ds' friends love coming over b/c he is the only one with Geotrax.

We really like them because they are cheaper than most wooden sets, have lots of cool add ons and they are just fun. :)

I wrote up a bigger answer over on the Toddler Toy board if you want to check that out. I have to run now but I gave more info there, including recommended sets. (Back in Oct. maybe Sept I also wrote something up for this Around the House board with slightly dif't info....a search on trains should find it).

Oh, and you don't use a train table for these. You could for a starter set but Geotrax take up more space so the floor is the best option.

Our GeoTrak collection has grown so much (Grandma hit a jackpot at a garage sale) that it FILLS my living room. So much fun. Highly recommend them for ease of use. Starting at 2 Jude could do them well himself.

Go for it! We have a train table ($50 Battat one) and this, E (1) plays with the table (I glued down the track) but prefers to watch the GeoTrak. Jude skips the table and goes right to the GeoTrak.
