Want to buy nieces and nephews a book and a subscription. Ages 1-8 over 7 kids. Willing to get 7 subscriptions, but need guidance please. Thanks!

My SIL bought 3.5yo ds (last year) a subscription to "Your Big Backyard." It is a nature based magazine and very age appropriate (age rec. is 3-7y).

The same people (National Wildlife Federation) also offer Ranger Rick for ages 7+ and Animal Baby (0-4yo).

A good series and the $ goes to a good charity. :) Same thing for National Geographic kids' magazine.

If they are at all into sports then Sports Illustrated has a kid geared magazine.

I always loved Highlights when I was little.

Amazon has a whole Magazine section that you could browse. I would probably buy directly from the company you want the magazine from but it has lots of reviews and options:

Cricket Publishing has fabulous mags for kids. We get Click and Ladybug for my 2 1/2 year old. Click is my favourite and hers as well!

I have always given Ranger Rick--4 yo DS likes it too. This kept my nieces happy for a long time and age range. By the time the oldest was 10, I switched to National Geo Kids. Now that the oldest is 14, I will get her a National Geo subs and the rest the Kids. I LOVE national geo--it is so awesome to learn about parts of the world that are so beyond our experience and those that are tied to the very essence of science/humanity.

Love the WWF mags. We had Wild Animal Baby for DS until recently, when we switched to My Big Backyard. Then they move up to Ranger Rick after that (age 7 or 8?).

There is also another set out there, which I don't have experience with that is BabyBug, Cricket, a science related one, etc. You can search for them online.

Someone posted this one previously: http://www.zoobooks.com They have one for 4-12 yo and one for 2-6 yo.

DD's aunt got her Babybug last year. At 27 mo, she is aging out of it. Another aunt got her My Big Backyard and she is just now getting into it.

I'm hoping her aunt gets her Ladybug now. I just ordered Zootles. I think someone might get her Click too.

The subscriptions seem costly, but at least the younger ones don't have advertising, which I appreciate.

I was just on the Highlights magazine website and saw that they have a brand-new Highlights Magaine for 2-6 years olds called Highlights High Five.

It said that the very first issue is the Premiere Issue which is scheduled to arrive in homes December 2006.

I was looking for some type of magazine subscription to give as a gift to my daughter's friends (3-4 years old) and this might be perfect.
