Toddler highchair/dining chair/booster

I have the Peg Perego high chair, which I do like, but I'm getting sick of having a big highchair in my kitchen and my dc wants to be at the table.

Should I take the tray off the chair (has anyone done that?), get a booster or spend the money on a kinderzeat? Are there seats similar to the kinderzeat or is that the only child seat?

If it were me I would probably take the tray off first and give that a try.

Onestepahead.com and Kettler both make Kinderzeat knock offs.
