I took two pieces of cardstock and made a grid creating 8 rectangles. My ds and dd drew a different picure in each rectangle. I made copies. Voila-Memory!
They have played many, many, many times in the last week.

I also thought it would be a good idea to take photos and cut them in half making "matching pairs." But we will ride the first game out first. :)

What a great idea. :) Great way to get a craft in before you play the game.

This is great!

I also wanted to add that when I taught kindergarten I often needed some activites kids could do on their own when the rest of the class was still working. I bought clear piece of vinyl from walmart (in the fabric section) and used it to cover a small table (like a table cloth). I bought s 2 of the same setsof postcards from a local disount bookstore (artwork, landmarks, locations, flowers, etc...). I would place one copy of each postcard under the plastic (all over the table). Then place the other set in a basket on the table. The kids could come up and place the matching postcard on top. Sometimes I would match the theme of the cards to what we were studying--sometimes they were just random images. I have often thought that when dd gets older I might do this on the kitchen table to keep her amused while I cook and they could spark conversation at dinner. You could also use famliy photos....

First, I love your idea. Second, how did you make copies? Did you use a color copier or just a black and white one? Also how old are your children? I have a 28 month old and wondering when she will be interested in a memory game.

TIA

My children are 7, 4 and 2. My 2 year old was interested b/c she is interested in everything her older siblings do. :)

We have a printer with a copy feature.

Thanks redhookmom for giving me this idea. I modified it so it would be easier for DD to recognize the shapes.

We cut index cards in half. We then took brightly colored file folder stickers (like a pink circle, a green square) and we put one of each shape/color combination on two cards. We only have 6 sets - 3 matching circle pairs, 3 matching square pairs (actually rectangle stickers we cut in half), each pair is either pink, green or yellow. They actually look semi-professional, kind of Montessori-like. If you do it this way, you can do shape sorting and color sorting as well. DD really liked the cards but, alas, wasn't into the "game" too much. She did like flipping them over alot and doing some sorting. But, she's still young, so in a few months, she might like the gaming aspect of it.

Thanks again redhookmom for inspiring me.
