Ds was given a toy for christmas and dh said "for the love of god, take it back!!!" It makes quite a bit of noise and is for 6 months and up and ds is 13 months old. I just don't think that he'll find this toy entertaining. As incredibly sweet as the thought was and the gift givers very loving-I just think that ds would like something a little more his age range.
So i have to take it back to target. since their policy is that you have to get something out of the same dept.when you're exchanging something i was wondering what other folks would buy for 30 dollars in the toy department at target. Let me know what you all think. I just don't know what to get him since he already recieved an awful lot of stuff. And with the policy I can't buy an organizer (aww, shoot).thanks

Happy new year

I don't think that policy is still in effect. I've returned stuff after having to do that (when dd was a baby) and they just gave me a gift card to use whereever. It might also be a judgement call for the store.

That is the policy if you make a return without a sales slip or gift receipt. If you have a either of those, you can buy something from anywhere.

You could use it towards a kitchen or a grocery store. Also, the play dishes and food are pretty neat there, a good value for the money. I was at Target today making an exchange (someone is under the impression that my 3 and 1/2 year old son, who wears a size 4T or 5T somehow can fit into a 2T, LOL) and saw a lot of toys on clearance, including a musical instrument set for about $30.

Puzzles, instruments, Matchbox/HotWheels...

They do have some good stuff there, but you really have to look.

For a 13 month old I would highly recommend the musical instrument set (the one that comes in the clear plastic drum) by Parents magazine. They sell it at Target and we buy it for every 1st birthday party we go to. My son received his for his first birthday and now - at 2 years and 3 months, still plays with it almost every day!!

That's a great recommendation! As a music teachin' Mommy, I give it two thumbs up! :)

Also, don't hesitate to "buy ahead" developmentally with standards like blocks or legos or the like... especially if your DC has plenty for now. Good luck!

What about a play tent ( or school bus pop up tent). I really like the Parents brand stuff. 2yrs ago we got some great pull back cars that Nathan still plays with.

DS is 13 months old and I cannot recommend the Parent's Bee Bop Band instrument set highly enough. It's a present that both my son and I love. He loves music and the size is perfect for his little hands. I'm thrilled that it doesn't need batteries and will grow with him. Another huge hit has been Mega Bloks.

Although I must admit his favorite present by far was the FP Animals Sing & Go Choo Choo. It is noisy but it has volume control and DS prefers to push it so most of the time we have it turned off. DS' 20 month old cousin was also fascinated by the train as well. We will probably gradually add the other animals from the set as well.

Hope this helps.

Hang on to it for a sand and water table or other outdoor toy in Spring. :)

I like the Parents brand toys also. The Animal Hospital is nice, and so are the Bristle Blocks (http://tinyurl.com/t4d7f). Sorry, I couldn't find a link to the Animal Hospital.

There's always the Rock and Roar Dinosaur, which seems to be a huge hit with almost any age group, including the adults.
