rigging extra shelves in KidKraft Island Kitchen?

DS got the primary colored Kidkraft island kitchen from Costco for Christmas this year. He is having a lot of fun with it and I like it except for the lack of shelves in the fridge and dishwasher cabinets. It would be nice to be able to store kitchen toys (play food, etc.) in there more neatly. Since I know some of you have the same kitchen, I wondered if anyone has rigged extra shelving already and how you did it. I guess I could pre-drill pilot holes and have lumber cut to size, but I was sort of looking for an easier solution given that DH and I will probably not get around to any complicated projects in the near future. It took DH long enough just to assemble the kitchen! ;)
