We're getting started on putting together DS big boy room and we want to include a magnetic play area on the wall. Anyone have any opinions/experience on whether to do a magnetic wall board vs magnetic paint? I love the look of the stainless steel magnetic boards but I'm not in love with how expensive they are.

I have not heard good things about the paint. It takes many coats and even then you can only use lightweight magnets.

I got a metal magnet board from IKEA for $13 and it has held up very well. You could put two or three together if you wanted a long area, but this one has been plenty for us (23" x 31.5"). I can't get the link to work, but it is called BITS. You can look under Work Area - Desk Accessories - Noticeboards on the website to see it.

You could also get a big piece of sheet metal, tack it up, and put moulding around the edges so they are not sharp.

We've purchased inexpensive baking sheets for this purpose. DC like having a portable magnetic surface.
