I know, I know... Coloring books aren't as good for creativity as white paper. But I've been struggling to interest my DS in creative activities for at least 2 years now and while he's been enjoying clay, playdough, and fingerpaint, he hasn't been big on "coloring" until I gave him a detailed sheet with lots of different kinds of animals. I'm wondering if anyone has found any kind of coloring book like this? I'm really looking for one with a lot of detail. He won't be able to fill it in properly but he loves using the crayon to highlight the different animals. Has anyone seen anything like this? TIA!

The dollar store near me had tons of different coloring books. I have seen farm theme ones etc there and they are cheep which is a plus. Also www.janbrett.com has beautiful coloring pages you can print. And if you like that site you might also like the crayola site which has coloring pages and lots of other fun creative art activites. Hope that helps.

PS coloring book pages are good for developing hand eye coordination which is important in learning to read and write so don't feel guilty about getting your child one.

I'e been doing this for DD a lot lately as she is obsessed with animals. Just go to google, type in an animal and then hit the images link after you search. It always reveals some great coloring pages free to print. Then I can print off DD's favorites over and over.

Here's an example of what it brought back to me:

There are also more "cartoony" ones to pick from. Good luck!

The last time I was at Target they had some at the dollar spot. My girls liked them, so I bought some more to keep around.
