I bought DS the bob the builder hat and tool belt - there is no way this hat will fit a 2 yo, it fits my head! So, DS is now very upset as the hat falls off all the time. Any suggestions for where I can get a yellow construction helmet that is adjustable - I can put a bob sticker on it if he insists.
Thanks

I have seen them in dollar stores, but not in a while. I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Party City (so maybe a party supply store), maybe birthday express, TRU, Target. Most of them have plastic retention system (headband) inside them that adjust. I had one for my oldest DS. I'd send it to you, but it's Orange now and has a PennDot symbol on it (DD needed it for a costume). I know I've seen them around. I see one on the oriental trading website, but it doesn't say whether it has a retention in it or not.

We got a yellow hat with a Tonka truck. They have them at Walmart, Toysrus etc. It's adjustable.

We had the same problem, probably with the same hat that my son got for his 2nd birthday.

The hat was very round, so it was only a little too big front to back but very wide over the ears on the side. I actually just grey foam insulating tape on the sides. One strip around the whole hat and a few on top of each other on the sides to get it to fit his head.

I was thinking of gluing foam to the inside of the hat. I'll try the foam insulating tape. I bet it is the same hat - it won't fit any kid. We've decided to have a construction party theme for his half-birthday (Christmas Day Baby), so when I'm out getting things for that, I'll see what I can get. I'll also look at the tonka truck with hat. All he wanted was a bob hat, and he was soooooo frustrated when it wouldn't stay on - worst tantrum EVER!. Talk about bad design

Carla, thanks for the offer of sending the hat, that's really nice of you. My parents have gotten an orange rural fire brigade hat for him, so we're covered for an orange hat. I'll make sure the next hat has the plastic retention system in it.

I feel your pain. We have tantrums like that quite often :) .

My nephew is two and was Bob the Builder for Halloween. The Bob hat didn't fit him either so he borrowed my DS's tonka hat.

I thought I would post since you are doing a construction themed party. We did one for DS's second birthday and I did a truck cake. It was delicious and everyone liked it. I got the idea from this thread. http://tinyurl.com/2x9yn9
I only did one big cake. I did a trifle layering chocolate cake, pudding, whipped cream, and crumbled heath bar. I searched all over TRU for the perfect truck and ended up going with a fisher price. I liked that the truck bed was nice and deep and that it was plastic. I didn't feel like DS was ready for a big metal Tonka because he was still playing pretty rough at that age. http://tinyurl.com/2bvopf The shovel in the cake was a nice touch.

Hope that helps.

Doesn't Tonka make the plastic ones anymore? When DS was little, I wanted Tonka trucks for him, but didn't like the metal ones because they do have sharp corners. Tonka used to make a plastic one, similar to the FP.

Thanks for that link. I might do that for the cake, it looks really cute. I like the idea of serving food in the trucks, if not cake maybe snack items. I think I'll have a food construction area - build your own sandwich, so I just have to put the bread/rolls and fixins out. Fruit/Vege plate, and a few easy snack options that I made earlier in the week, should be plenty.

I'm going to do aprons, construction hat, plastic tools as well. All the kids can dress up for the party, and then we'll have a few activity stations so they can do what they want. I can get a lot of things from oriental trading, but I'm going to visit the dollar store first. Home Depot will also be on my list for some decorations too.

Tonka does make plastic but at the time they didn't have the exact size I wanted :) .
