could I be any more confused? !LOL! Still can't decide on a highchair... I love the stokke seats - it's nice to be able to push it right up to the table, and I can see the girls taking turns when DS is bigger... but the no tray option is driving me nuts... How important is the tray for a big guy who's 6m old? I thought it would be nice for him to have his own space to play and have fun, as well as to be fed before he starts feeding himself.

With no tray, he'd have to be pulled away from facing the table in order for me to feed him, which I don't mind, but if he wanted to play on the table, would it be frustrating if everything rolls away? And with the rest of us sitting at the table, space is a premium, so it might be nice for DS to have a tray while we're all at the table. ugh.

So then I think -- just get the ikea antilop for now, and when he's bigger, ditch the 4-seater oval cherry table that we have now and get a big rectangle that seats 6-8 that I've been dreaming of, and let him kneel just like DDs did when they were 2.

tia for any advice!!

woe. :)

Well I am a bit biased now that I bought a Tripp Trapp. I love it! DD hated her old high chair (peg perego primma pappa) with a passion. The tray was also way too high for her. (She couldn't really see the food she was reaching for). She also hated being surrounded by it, if that makes sense. The Tripp Trapp is a whole other story. She loves sitting up like a big girl and she loves eating at the table. My DD is just about a year so a bit older than your DS, but I wish I had it the entire time. When I feed her, it's not a big deal to turn her towards me, plus she is still angled towards the table so she can grab her sippy and such. If you are going to get one, get the baby rail right away because even at one, DD was wobbly in it!

I hope that helps a bit!

Ummm... well, we just recently got the Tripp Trapp and LOVE it. DS feels like a big boy and has really taken to it. However, when he was little, in the early solids days... we've had a few incidents when the regular FP highchair with a tray came in handy. Sometimes he would get into his super-eating mode and eat as much as was offered. If I didn't cut him off at the exactly prescribed moment, he would projectile vomit everything he had just eaten. Those were the times when I was really grateful for the FP chair with tray as the tray "contained" everything. This only happened maybe 10 times total, but it was still a huge mess every time and I don't know how well it would have cleaned up otherwise. Probably just fine, just some more work.

Are you set on having a wooden high chair? Why not just get a Kettler Tipp-topp or the new Eddie Bauer. http://tinyurl.com/29598r They both have trays.

Like I've mentioned before, I have the FP Healthy Care high chair and I wouldn't trade it for the world. It is wonderful. I love the big tray and that I can wheel it all over the kitchen. When my DS was two we took the tray off and pushed it up to the table. He used it for three years until we bought him the Tipp-topp and now my DD is using it.

I personally wouldn't get a seat without a tray. I haven't seen the Ikea but it sounds like a good compromise for now.

I posted this in your other thread, but just in case you didn't see it:

There is apparently a tray that works with the Tripp Trapp that is only available in Germany - and on EBay of course!

It's called the Clic Clac tray:
