DS1 will be 5 next month. I need some ideas of things that might be good to get him forhis birthday- older play toys. He has lots of dress-up stuff already. I'd like to get some things that are fun and challenging for him... maybe marble rails? I find myself buying things that are more babyish b/c I also have a 3.5 yr. old boy. Together they have dinosaur figures, horse figures, puzzles, wooden blocks, some simple board games (he might like something harder...), plenty of art stuff, superhero stuff and I'm sure there'smore, Ijust can't think of it right now. Suggestions??

Ds (almost 5) and I just finished playing another fun round of Junior Labyrinth and was about to come on here and just give it a thumbs up in general. I think it would be a *great* game for him if you don't have it.

I can find it at B&M independent toy and game stores in my city.

There was a pretty good thread about 5yo boy gift ideas last week. I know ideas were board games, Matchbox play sets, things from "Cars" (like the Mack the Truck play set), outdoor toys (I recommended the Little Tikes' sprinkler ball for $15). We are planning to buy our soon to be 5yo a scooter, some action figures and maybe some other little stuff (like another board game).

A marble toy would be fun. Ds got one with a motorized "elevator" and it is a pretty fun set. Word of caution- consider keeping the box if you get that one since otherwise storing it is a pain! I don't where the buyer bought it though and the instructions are currently inaccessible. If you need the info I can try and find it.

I'd really recommend the game above. I think it is lots of fun (not boring like some kids' games can be). :)

My 5 (almost 6) year old is loving the little cheapy sprinkler we got at Target. The Mt tikisoakie (whatever it's called is on sale right now at TRU) and looks like fun! I am also planning on getting a slip n slide. Target has the smaller inflatable version on sale this week too! I bet he's love a marble run but I am affraid cause he has a 2 year old brother who still likes to put things in his mouth occasionally!

Mason is also very into the Razor scooter he got at Easter!

Do you think he would like a Cranium superfort/megafort.... my DS likes his!

How about a cool tent.... he could have campouts in the backyard this summer!

Is he interrested in bugs? Maybe a bug kit so he can catch and release.

My DS loves taking pictures with our digital camera so I am thinking we might get him a cheaper one of his own for his birthday in July.

Does your DS like legos? Mine is very into them at the moment. He also loves his Megabloks Pyrates ships.

Good Luck

DS will be 5 this summer. He is really into Playmobil at the moment. He also likes puppets a lot. He's just getting into Lego. As for board games, I highly recommend Cranium Balloon Lagoon - very fun. He also likes card games like Curious George Uno (the junior version comes in different themes). Sequence for Kids and Monopoly Jr. are other good board games. A Leapster is fun if you don't have one of those. We have a Quadrilla marble run. It is really cool, but in all honesty, it doesn't get that much play time.

Checl out this website

We have this as a unit in our PE classes at school.Even our Head Start classes get into it. There are many different levels so interest can last a long time.

I know that Toys r Us carries them and also target online.

We had two neighborhood friends that just turned 5 and we got them an ant farm. I had to send off for the ants about 4 weeks in advance so I could take them to they party. It was a pain but the Ant Farm was a hit at the party, and the Mom's are still speaking to us...

I've been into getting these headlamps for birthday presents recently. Kids are so fascinated by flashlights, plus they come in handy for us adults too when needed.

The basic models are reasonably priced at around $20. Here's the link to the model above at LLBean: http://tinyurl.com/lmpte
