table/chair set

Hello, I am looking to buy a nice table/chair set for my 2 year old DD that she can use for arts/crafts as well as sitting and reading. Some say to get plastic (easy to clean, easily replaceable, not $$) but is wood really that hard to upkeep? Will I regret getting a nice wooden table set? Thanks.

Ours (a PBK hand me down) has a vaneer top (so easy to wipe clean) and wood legs. The chairs are wood/with cain seats. It's been great so far and was pristine when we got it used. Might be a good compromise?
