Even though we have cars, trains, and other assorted vehicles here at home, E seems to have developed a fondness for garbage trucks! lol This morning we even went out to watch the garbage truck pick up our garbage (and E waved to the garbage man! And the garbage man waved back! E was shy but very happy!)

So I'd like to get him a book about garbage trucks, or a small toy garbage truck, or something like that. Has anyone seen any such things?

TIA!

Jen

There was a thread not too long ago about favorite garbage trucks. I didn't respond since DS's fav - the Tonka garbage truck - was mentioned. MIL bought the Tonka (probably Walmart) and I have not seen it at Target yet. http://www.windsorpeak.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=12&topic_id=72146&mode=full

We bought two others from Target (can't remember the makers) and they aren't quite as good as the Tonka one, but DS plays and enjoys them all. Our Target has a garbage truck and a recycle truck (we got the recycle truck). They all make noises of some sort - his recycle truck plays a song "to the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump; to the dump, to the dump, to the dump, dump, dump; to the dump, to the dump, to the dump dump dump; to the dump dump dump!" to the tune of the William Tell Overture.

Also - there was string about garbage trucks I started when DS wanted a song about garbage trucks - off the Little People cd, Things that Go or something similar. Got a recommendation for the book Trashy Town which DS got for his b-day and is one of his all-time fav books. http://www.windsorpeak.com/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=12&topic_id=69064&mode=full

DS was heartbroken when our garbage service was changed from early morning Tuesday to 11am, we rarely see our garbageman anymore - luckily the one for my folks comes on Monday when DS is with them.

eta: DS puts everything in his garbage truck - magnets, brio train pieces, etc., - but we started with "fake" garbage made out of crumpled paper.

There are some Tonkas on sale on AMazon. This is one of them.

(Edited to add links)

DS (23 m/o) loves garbage trucks. He has a Tonka, but his favorite is by Little Tikes. I think it's actually a recycling truck. Things get loaded inside and dumped out constantly.

For books, you might want to try "I Stink!" (I think it's called), which we also have. It's about an NYC santation truck -- very vivid artwork.

I second the recommendation for the Little Tikes truck!

We also got a small green garbage truck made by Brio/Plan City. My 2 year old loves it.... it is the most played with of all the plan city trucks/cars we have!

there are these too!

Wow!

First, thanks for all the suggestions for trucks and books...I had no idea that so many garbage trucks existed (yeah, a little web searching would have turned them up, but I just assumed they would be a rare item, so I never looked). A Tonka truck and "I Stink" are on their way, I hope they will be well received.

And second, I am amazed at how many other kids are fascinated by garbage trucks. Again, I just assumed this was a very peculiar thing for E to pick up, but apparently he is far from alone. :)

Tuesdays and Fridays are practically holy days at our house. Our garbage man is a sweetheart and always waves and honks to DS when he goes by - of course, DS and I are standing like lunatics in the driveway in our jammies when this happens. The neighbors just love us!! :) I'll even admit that DS and I have "stalked" the garbage truck in our community. If we happen to see one when we're driving, we'll follow it around for a few blocks with DS yelling "TRUCK!" as loud as he can in the backseat. Enjoy the book and truck - they are favorites around here.

I've got a garbage truck lover too!!

Every Wednesday, in the middle of my son's speech therapy appointment,
he runs to the window when he hears the garbage truck rumbling into our
neighborhood.

Speech Therapy comes to a screeching halt until our trash has been picked
up and the truck has driven away.

My son gives one last shout-out to the garbage truck when the garbageman
has finished our neighborhood and the truck is driving off. :)
