We saw this toy at a local Mom and Pop toy store. Both kids were absolutely entranced by it. Even though it says 6yo+, the reviews on Amazon mention younger kids. As far as I could tell, all the pieces are the same size, and not very 'swallowable'.

I could even see playing with them, myself. ;)

We have a bunch and love it a lot. The pieces are technically a choking hazard, but my kid is not a big chewer and she and her friend H have been playing with it since she was about 2.5 and he was about 3. They can do some assembly but call on adults to help if they want something specific made. The adults are generally happy to help. We got a couple sets from different places -- kidsurplus.com and American Science and Surplus at www.sciplus.com often have them, plus we got a set with wheels on sale from FatBrain.
