I'm just curious. :)

While he loves his trains, DS is much more interested in the different pieces of track (bridges, etc.) than the trains. He spends forever building elaborate tracks. I get the sense that a lot of kids are more interested in the trains than track, so I thought I'd ask and see if that's an accurate perception.

My kids are obsessed with the trains. The tracks... they just ruin, then whine for me to put together another one for them. They do play with the trains ON the track, but they are not that interesting in actually building a track design of their own. I've basically resorted to doing a really basic track now, b/c my creativity for tracks is fried after having to do too many of them and then seeing my youngest destroy it in one fell swoop! Interestingly enough, the last wooden track I put together has lasted for almost a wk now. I'm really surprised. The geotrax ALWAYS get ruined within the first hour though. Drives me nuts!

I bet it's the age. My 4yo is much more interested in the tracks. My 1yo loves the trains.

I'm guessing it is an age/development thing. My 2 yo loves the trains and builds them 20 cars long...on the floor and skips the train table and tracks half the time.

I think there are phases. My ds has been through both phases. We don't watch a lot of tv, but when we plug in one of the Thomas movies, he gets more into the trains for a while.
