I am cleaning out our library this week. We have lots of classics, but most are paperback from college. So I started making a list of books I want to replace--keep my eye out at used book stores, add to my paperbackswap.com wish list. And started thinking about a list I have seen several times--in the paper and maybe even mentioned on Oprah-- of the top 100 classics that every family should own. I did a quick search online and came up with nothing... Does anyone have a link to such a list? Or is there a book referencing such things (I have a book about the 250 pictures books your child should read)?

TIA

Here are two lists that might help you:

I'm working on a children's library for my daughter. I've had so much fun collecting books! I could spend hours in our local used book store. I buy mostly paperbacks... hardcovers are just so expensive and hard to find used so I just decided paperback would have to do! I've especially enjoyed collecting books that I read as a child. Here's a couple of lists for good children's literature in case anyone would like it:

I've never been to paperbackswap.com. I'll have to check that site out. Enjoy your book hunt!

Thanks Jenny. That's what I was looking for.

If you love collecting books then you will love paperbackswap. You sign up and offer up some books you have that you don't want. For every one that you mail out you get a credit to "order" one from soomeone else's list. There are over a million to choose from. Plus you can make a wish list so as soon as someone posts the one you want it let's you know. It's all free. The only thing you pay for is the postage to mail your own books out. Plus it prints a label for you with the exact media rate postage figured out so you don't have to wait in the que at the post office. I have been using it for about a year and have gotten books for me, my husband and my daughter. We average geting about 2 a week. Plus it's fun to get fun stuff in the mail!

Thanks again.
