Rehabbing doll hair

Hi! DD has two dolls whose hair is completely trashed. I have tried combing and brushing the hair, but with no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to rehab doll hair so that it's no longer all matted and tangled?

Liquid fabric softener! I had a Barbie *head* that was in awful shape and that is what helped! Just saturate the whole thing and use a pick type comb.
