I know this has been asked before, but my searching is terrible. I will try again though.

We're going on a trip soon and I know I need to get DS something for sleeping. He's outgrown the pack n play...I know there is a ready bed, or we could just use an inflatable-type bed, or maybe put a mattress on the floor...any other suggestions (I think the Peapod is only for infants, although that looks interesting)? It's true though that he was technically too big for the pack n play last time we used it (in April) and did okay.

I don't think DS is going to like and/or stay in the ready bed (he currently is in a crib and I don't really see that ending soon!).

He is 38 inches tall and about 31 lbs (a tall guy for his age!). But he's very young for his age (and doesn't talk) and I don't think we'd be able to explain to him about the ready bed! I think he would just jump on it like a trampoline (he really loves to jump).

TIA!

OMG... I just went through this with DS. We ended up getting an Aerobed for Kids. It inflates in seconds and has a 4-inch bumper to prevent roll-offs. While it is expensive, it is definitely worth it and will last him for years. I wasn't sure DS (who sleeps in a crib at home) would understand the concept of sleeping on the inflatable bed, so I brought the nap mat we send with him to daycare. Once he saw the nap mat, he climbed right in. And he LOVES the Aerobed. He's only 18 months old, but is huge - 32.5 lbs. Here is a picture:

I got it from www.Target.com

That's just how DS sleeps! I wouldn't think having your butt in the air would be all that comfortable, but I guess I'm wrong!

Thank you for the post and the link. I just received a gift certificate to Target, I'll definitely check it out and see if they have it in the store as well, but online works too.

A friend just told me that even though her son is bigger than the height/weight limit, he does fine sleeping in his pack n' play...we may try that too since I know it's worked in the past. I'm just really worried that he's not going to understand the Aerobed (or the like), but I could be totally surprised. The nap mat is a great idea too, but we don't have anything like that, although he does sleep with his stuffed puppies and that might work.

we got a ready bed (I think that is what it is... blows up with Pooh on it) - DS didn't even try to sleep on it... he bounced and would sit on it to watch tv... but not sleep.

He ended up sleeping with me in the bed.

If where you are going has an extra mattress - put it on the floor against a wall. I've found DS sleeps very well that way.

An Aero bed might work - since it is probably better than the cheapo blow up I bought!

We have an aerobed, and like it, but DD doesn't sleep in a crib. There is a bigger peapod that goes up to age 6(!) that I'm very tempted by

Oh, that might be exactly what I need. I wondered if there was a bigger Peapod. I'm worried about DS tipping over the pack n play, and that looks like a good solution. He'd still be contained, but on the ground...

We have the larger peapods and just used them for a trip to europe for 2 weeks and the kids slept great. They love having their own tents. When the kids were younger we had the smaller peapods which we only used once before my ds outgrew it in length. We then bought the aerobeds but my kids do not stay put to sleep on them. My kids are 3 years old (my ds is about 40 inches) and there is plenty of room for growth so we know we have several years of use.

Just thought I'd share our experience with the inflatable beds.

We had a hello kitty inflatable bed for my DD and I guess there was a small hole somewhere because we would pump it up at night and by the morning it was deflated. There was no way I could find where the hole was so we ended up giving it away.

We also had a full-size Aerobed (with the pump built-in) and that also had a hole somewhere. Every morning it would be half deflated.

I've now given up on anything inflatable.

Both our beds only lasted us a couple months before I noticed that the air was leaking somewhere.

HTH.

DD is 2 1/2 and we just moved her out of her PNP onto an aerobed mattress. She wasn't a climber or anything so we didn't really worry about her getting out. She was just starting to look so cramped in there!

So, a few weeks ago, we were on a trip and we decided to try the aerobed. We brought the PNP just in case. She did awesome, though! She didn't get up and LOVED her new bed. In fact, when we got home she didn't want to go back to the crib and spent the next few weeks on the aerobed until we got her a toddler bed. And she is doing so well with it! Amazingly well, actually.

Good luck!

hmmm.... our aerobed stayed inflated the whole week just fine. No leaks there.

I got the Ready Bed from QVC since it came with a battery pump. Tried it this week and DD LOVES it. I am just not sure she will stay in it when we go away in August and may have to use a PNP one more vacation. The sides are raised and the cover can be removed for washing. It comes in Dora and Winnie the Pooh. The had Thomas but is sold out.

We just came across this problem. DD is too big for the pack and play and when we were deciding DD was still in her crib. We went with the Youth Aerobed since it would last her longer. She just moved to a toddler bed and stays in it at night. Thanks to daycare teaching her to stay on her nap mat until they call her to get up.

We have this cot and my dtr does really well with it. We usually throw a blanket on top to make it soft and cozy. She does nap on a cot at daycare, so it was an easy transition for her. We found it online at wal-mart for $29 , after seeing it on One Step Ahead for $44.

I have been watching for a good deal on an aerobed since I first read this post (my ds has outgrown the pack-n-play too). Today I finally purchased the bed through Kohls using my Kohls card to make the price $56.69 plus $10 in Kohls cash. Here's how I did it if anyone is interested:

Added bed to cart: Sale price was $62.99
Added a $12.00 filler (which I'll probably return to the store)
to qualify for free shipping
Shipping is free on orders over $75
Applied code NEW5495 for 10% off (thanks to slickdeals)
I'll also receive $10 in Kohls cash for my order over $50
ebates for 2% too

I couldn't find a price less than $79.99 so I thought I'd post if someone was interested in one too.

HTH,
Eva

We went through the same thing and went with the Kids Aerobed. We LOVE it and DS just adores it. We also thought it would never work and that he wouldn't understand that vs. crib (which he was still in) but there was not even one small problem. Slept in it great and went right back to the crib with no problems when we got home.

Interestingly enough, this past weekend, we forgot ours when we went down to inlaws. We tried sleeping bags, small inflatable mattress, etc. and nothing would work. We finally had to use the PNP and he still fit in it, especially since he sleeps curled up anyway. He was begging for his Aerobed though (poor little man).

Here's a pic from his first night in it (he insisted on sleeping in it the night we got it):

DD#1 has had the same Aero Toddler Bed for about 2 1/2 years and it works great. We use it as well as some neighbors, we have never had a problem, unless we forget charge the air pump before we leave.;-)

The bag did tear along the seam about 1 year into use and we just replaced it with a laundry bag... it is bigger so we keep all the blankets and other bedtime necessities in with the bag...

I bought mine from One Step Ahead so that is what it says on the bed but the bag and pump said Aero.

Here is the link, it is 69.99, we did not buy the pillowcase and blanket.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but may I ask where you got your sleepsack? I've been looking for a longer one for my son, who is a little over 2 years old. The one in your picture looks fantastic!

Thank you.

I have no idea how it worked, but here's what ended up happening. Target.com had a deal of 25% off any purchase of $125 or more and free shipping on over $50 of kids bed and bath items.

I got the aerobed for kids, a Thomas toddler inflatable bed and a Thomas youth inflatable bed. The aerobed arrived the day we left for vacation, the thomas beds did not. So, I never got to compare the beds before going on vacation like I planned.

Here is the price breakdown:
Item(s) Subtotal: $142.97
Shipping: $22.78
Promotion Applied: -$35.75
Free Shipping: -$22.78
-----
Total Before Tax: $107.22
Estimated Tax: $6.43
-----

Grand Total: $113.65

The Thomas beds arrived after we came back, so I just took them back to the store. When I got home, I realized that they credited me for the full price of the Thomas beds plus the tax refund. That total was over $66. So, my total was a little over $47 for the Aerobed for Kids.

Sorry to hijack again, but I really need to find a larger sleepsack for my 2 year old. Does anyone recognize the manufacturer of the sleepsack in Laura's picture or have any suggestions? The Halo's are getting too small.

Thank you,

SR

Not sure what that is, but Halo now makes one for toddlers. We also have Grobags. They're a bit pricey, but last through more sizes (I think) than the Halo sleepsack.

Big Kid Sleepsack:

some toddler sizes although they don't seem to go too big:

Thanks Debbie!

I actually have one of the toddler halo fleece sleepsacks, but they don't make their cotton ones in the toddler sizes for some reason. I will have to check out your other links. The one in the picture looked so comfy!

Thanks,

SR
