View Full Version : Which do you like better - Weebles or FP Little People?

I thought DD might enjoy either some Little People sets or some Weebles. I've not been happy with the modern version of Little People. I played with Little People as a child and the older version was just more fun. The newer sets don't come with many people and the people seem set specific. The older versions of people were a little more generic. There's a recent thread further down about vintage toys that I totally agree with!

Anyway, I have been looking at Weebles as an alternative and was wondering what some opinions were out there.

Thanks!

Jenny

My kids have 4 LP sets & really like them. Especially dd, when she was younger, she could play with them for a long time. BUT we have two Weebles sets that I got on clearance - one is Goldilocks & one is a big castle & they LOVE them. They and other kids who come over really like to play with the castle especially. I think I like the LP better & maybe they would if they were not always around.

My 2.5 year-old has been really enjoying her LP lately. We have a few sets that seem to work well together (House, Garage, a cute little fold-out school-house that we got at a consignment shop, Bus, Firehouse, Farm). I'm avoiding the fantasy-type sets that they are selling now like Pirates and Dinos (DD loves dinosaurs, but these are just silly!).

I agree that the older ones were cooler. And even some slightly-older ones (like our nifty school house) are cooler IMO that the silly sets that they are selling now with furry animals and "learning toy" features (like the current "school" which isn't even a building). We have bought nearly all of ours at consignment or garage sales and are frequently happier that way (our older model bus, for example, doesn't make any noise, requires no batteries, and has more seats!).

If you want more basic people, you can buy them at the Fisher Price website. We got the Families in your Neighborhood set. They're actually on sale now. You can get a lot of individual pieces on ebay too, although they may end up costing you more per piece.

You can also get this set of workers:

And if you need more farm animals:

Also keep your eyes out for little tubes of 3 little people that you can find semi-randomly in stores that carry LP. We obtained a Grandma, Grandpa, and Cat this way, and also a set with a couple of workers and a dog. When DD plays with her LP dollhouse - the cat and dogs we have are actually the stars of the show!

My SIL bought DS the Weebles castle and I have to say that he does love it. We have a lot more Little People (and I find the Weebles hard to find and/or there just aren't as many of them). But I bought a few on clearance to go with the castle. They're a bit easier for him to manuever, and he loves the moat on the castle.

*I* like LP better, but I'm not sure about DS! I did just buy a bunch of LP at a consignment store because I don't like the new touch and feel animals (and couldn't really justify anymore new toys!).
