Who makes the best Tinker toys?

I was wondering if anyone's had any experience with these toys lately. Dh wants to get the children some for bd/christmas and so I was looking online and it seems that there are a bunch of differant kinds of "tinker toys". You can get the original tinker toy,or there are some with plastic involved. Some brands are all plastic and then there are the retro sets. There seem to be many differant brands offering the type of toy, I was just wondering if there was anyone who'd recently btdt with tt.

We just have the big tub of Hasbro plastic ones. They were a gift. Not sure if I would have gone with the wood had I been buying on my own. The plastic ones work fine though.
