Could someone please tell me? I keep meaning to call my local toy store but always seem to forget during store hours.

Thanks!

I believe they are still made in NYC. Can you check a box out?

According to recent Business Week and NYT articles, they've outsourced much of their production to China. The Harlem factory (a former Studebaker plant) apparently still houses the design studio, a gallery, and birthday party facilities.

There wasn't much recent info on the official website (http://www.madamealexander.com/).

That breaks my heart. I have a ton of old Madame Alexander dolls from when I was a child and I thought they were still made in Harlem. There are always a bunch of old Madame Alexander dolls on Ebay, they are more likely to be made in the USA and they are less than new.

Thanks for your posts. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my question. My heart is breaking, too. I really wanted to get a Huggums for DD's first birthday. I'm not really into the Waldorf style but I guess I might have to go that route if I want to stay away from dolls made in China.

ETA: Thanks for the tip about e-bay, I'll have to talk to DH about this alternative and see what he thinks.
