View Full Version : What are you using to hold Halloween loot for trick or treats?

Last year my mother bought the girls those cheapy cheap plastic orange pumpkins. They were just awful - not well made, they scratched the girls' hands every time they used them, etc. Mia insisted on using a tiny metal lobster bucket from the Dollar Bin at Target instead (Go, Mia, Go!). ;) Of course, since it literally held three pieces of mini candy at a time, I had to keep dumping it into the pumpkin thing I ended up holding on her behalf.

I love the look of the basket thingies from PB Kids but can't stomach the price. I grew up using pillow cases but don't think I'm ready to force that horror on my kids. :P

What are you using for your kiddos who are old enough to go trick or treating?

TIA

I saw the cutest idea in 10/2007's Family Fun issue. It's using a canvas bag that you write "happy Halloween" on then you add yearly what the costume was. Makes a good keepsake.

I love them most when they are sleeping.--Me

What i *plan* for Will to use and what he actually uses will be 2 different things! So far we have: said plastic pumpkin (strap already broke); a nice orange plastic bucket - i think from Target last year but it's nicely made and thick/strong. I keep looking at PBK and then look the other way - though once the new store opens I might change my mind when i can actually touch it (SHM is too far to "just" touch!).

Oh and we have a tin bucket w/ his name on it from Christmas Tree Shop at Easter time - that might be what he chooses.

I have the cutest bags for the kids to carry!! At least, I think so!!

I bought jean totebags at Michaels and took them to an embroidery shop.

I had the outline of a pumpkin embroidered on the totebag and I had their
name embroidered on the inside of the pumpkin.

It turned out great!!

I just ordered a cat trick-or-treat basket from Lillian Vernon for dd. I ordered her cat costume from there & she saw this basket while I was online. I haven't gotten it yet, but it looked kinda cute.

Reeve has a felt pumpkin from PBK, but I didn't buy it until after Halloween 2 years ago. It doesn't solve the problem for this year, but you'll be set for next year. :) Actually, PBK has free shipping right now (the bags are $12) and ebay has a bunch but with shipping they're not any cheaper than the ones at PBK.

An orange plastic bucket for the last years. Much like yours. My mom got it at the drug store.

This year, likely a paper lunch sack since the orange pumpkin is MIA after our move in June. I just got roped into paying for the PBK bee costume for Toby so am feeling extra resolute that we will not spend a nickel on a bag. :P But the bee is really, really cute as a costume.

****Rocking out while parenting my smart little munchkin Toby. Just trying to do good in the world, a little at a time. Words to live by: it is *never* the wrong time to do the right thing :)

I got small canvas bags at Hobby Lobby and will embroider on them. I have glow-in-the-dark thread that I'll use. I'll probably use this design:

and put "Happy Halloween!" under the ghost.

I did a pillowcase for my nephew (who's on a spider kick lately) for his birthday... though he won't be using it for T-o-T, I thought I'd throw it out there for inspiration for you guys! :)

A tiny little bag from Michaels (about 4"x4"). I have 2 exactly the same and will do a sneaky switch as soon as we get home and trade the one she took out for the one that I'll make up ahead of time with only a handful of peanut free treats in it.

Dd isn't even 3 and she doesn't need a big old bag of junk food. Plus, she has a peanut allergy and we can't bring most candy into the house anyway. I want her to be able to participate so we are going to the homes of neighbors that we know and then she can come home and help hand out loot, which I think she'll enjoy even more!

I saw some cute ones at Old Navy the other day. I didn't get one (forgot) -- hopefully they are still there when I go back!

Old Navy had some $3 bags that looked like they would hold up for the night... and maybe a couple more halloween trick or treatings!

I think I might go back and buy a couple!

We are using these high vis Halloween bags. They are pretty highly reflective and sort of freaky if light shines on them in the dark.

We bought some nylon-ish pumpkin-shaped bags at WalMart last year. The fabric is covering a spring-type frame, so they are collapsible. They used them last year and will use them again this year. I might get inspired to do something cuter in the future, but not this year! LOL

Pottery Barn now has their Puffy Halloween bags on sale for $7.99, plus free shipping. Regular felt bags for Halloween are $4.99.
