'Cause it kinda bugs me. I was eyeing the firehouse set for Xmas and called them so I could ask about where they were made. The told me where (Thailand) but wouldn't tell me WHO.

I know it's because they don't want you looking and finding it cheaper elsewhere. Like the farm set, which I *knew* I had seen before, and was right. It's M&D and way cheaper a couple of places.

I've bought stuff from them. I got some cute little birdie curtain rods for Layla's room. But that whole thing just miffs me a teensy bit......

PinToys is the manufacturer: http://www.pintoys.com/toy/html/firestation001.htm

Not cheaper, but here it is: http://www.fao.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=20

and from the UK: http://www.littlefishtoys.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=365&osCsid=5iqnb0qmotfsi2ei1bvlae4jk7

Yes, that ticks me off when catalogs won't tell me the manufacturers.

So, I usually come here and ask around. :) Someone always
knows the answer.

Aha! Thanks girl. :) I did think about ordering it from fao out of principle, even though its more, lol. But I'm kinda too cheap for that. ;)

You are right Corie. Another reason to *heart* this place. :)

Sometimes they have a written contract with the manufacturer saying that they will not disclose their name.

I was just going to post that. The company I used to work for sold items to a retail catalog company and they were not allowed to disclose our name. It seems backwards but if a company as a reputation for a specific price range they sometimes get more for a product through an upscale outlet if the name is not visible or disclosed.

Or the employee you spoke to had no idea so it was easier to tell you he couldn't tell you than research the answer....

I have had good luck in the past by searching google using some key phrases from a product description in quotes. It often returns the same item on a different site as the descriptions usually come from the manufacturer.
