marking kids toys/clothes

What pen can I use to mark my child's toys (in particular) and clothes? I want to be able to send things out of the house, to nursery, etc. And the adults to know who it belongs to. But I know these things will go in his mouth, so I need to know what markers are safe to use?

Well, I would just use a Sharpie. I really had not given too much thought as to weather it would be safe for little mouths. Hmmm.
