Hi,

I just saw a new toddler/booster seat at Toys R Us
called the FP Futura 20/60. It is forward-facing
only for children 20-60 lbs and has a tray with
a cup holder, but the interesting thing about it
is that it uses a harness all the way to 60 lbs.
All of the other boosters that I have seen are
simply belt-positioning boosters--you have to
stop using the harness once the child reaches
40 lbs.

Does anyone own or know anything about this seat?
My son will be 3 in August, but he's been over
40 lbs since May. It would be great if we could
use a booster with a harness, because he can
wriggle much more in his belt-positioning booster.
It just doesn't seem very safe. But I hate to buy
a brand-new product without knowing anything about it.

Thanks,
K

This is a great seat for what it does! For those people who have children over 40lbs who won't sit in a seat belt, or those people who only have lap belts and can't use a belt positioning booster. The only negative is that it has a "shield" of a sort. However, this shield is much lower than a traditional overhead shield seat, and is actually BOLTED onto the car seat. Beginning next week or so the Center for Injury Protection (CIP) will be selling this carseat in a 5pt harness version. It will ONLY be available from them. They have a web site...and for the life of me I can't remember what it is. If you visit the carseat board over at parentsplace.com you'll see some discussion regarding this seat and could find the link to CIP's site. Even with the shield I think this seat is an excellent choice for those kids over 40lbs. I am planning on buying one for my 40lb 2 yr old...tho I will be buying the 5-pt version. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply--I wanted to wait for the 5-pt
version, but the talk I had been hearing made me
believe they may never get it out. In any case, I
bought the "tray" version and we like it a lot.
It installs really solidly in our minivan--better
than our Britax Roundabout, even. My only complaint
is that the buckle can be really hard to fasten,
because the tray is in the way. But it just takes
a little getting used to, and isn't difficult at
all to unbuckle.

Our other booster is a belt-positioning only model,
the Cosco Voyager, and while it is not a bad seat
in general (and definitely affordable), I find
that my son just has too much wiggle-room in it.
He isn't even trying to get out, but the seatbelt
loosens as he reaches for things or moves around.
The Fisher-Price is much more secure.

Thanks,
K

Has anyone bought anything from them?

Thanks for the web address--I had looked all over for it.

Wow, they are asking a lot for it--I paid much less for
the 4-pt. tray version at Toys R Us, and thought then that
I was spending a lot. I had heard rumors that the CIP
might give a discounted price, but I guess that was
untrue. I wish that FP would make them for general
sale.

I just ordered the very same model for $59.99 at estyle.com. It totals to about $74 with S/H. I highly recommend this website for baby product purchases. They are great about notifying you via email when your item was shipped. A lot of times too they will send out special coupons up to $25 off $50 or more.

I recently had a horrifying experience with Babygear.com. Buyers beware!!! This company charges your credit card before the item is shipped. They charge it at the time it was ordered. My item was canceled on 9/24 because they said too many people ordered it and they have yet to credit my account over one month later. No one emailed me to tell me this. I will never use them again.
