car seats on the train

We might take a short trip (1-2 hours)by train this winter. Are carseats mandatory for train travel? Does anyone have any experience using a car seat on the Amtrack? Thanks in advance.

Carseats are not mandatory. How old is your baby? We took a 3 hour trip (DC to NYC) when DD was 8 weeks old. We used her infant seat and it worked beautifully. If you board early enough to be able to get the very first seat in the car, there is usually enough room in front of you for either a carseat or a small stroller.
