Sorry--one more quick question: Can a carseat with the latch system be used in an old car? Our 4-runner is a '96, but we'll be buying another car eventually so I want to get the most updated system. I'm sorry--I'm sure this question has been answered many times, but I couldn't find it and I'm so confused!

You may still use LATCH carseats in the typical way with the seatbelts in an older vehicle. If the model you like has LATCH, you might as well have it in case you do upgrade your vehicle soon:-)

Of course, you won't be able to use the lower anchors for installation in an older vehicle, but you should still use the top tether.

Good luck!

You can certainly use the seatbelts and bypass the LATCH system on your carseat.

HTH,
