Sleeping when forward facing...head slumping....

I just turned my 16 month DD forward facing in her carseat. (which I kind of regret since I'm pregnant and she's in the middle, a bit hard getting her in and out and I'm not that big yet!!).

Her head slumps forward or all the way over to the side when sleeping... is there anything I can do to help this w/ this seat? Also, I've heard some carseats recline (mine doesn't, Accel), but not sure in the forward position. Do any do this?

The only FF only toddler seat, that I know that doesn't require the seat to be reinstalled to recline, is the Maxi Cosi Priori which unfortunately has been discontinued. Not because it isn't a good seat, but the distribution company (Cosco -- the Maxi Cosi isn't a Cosco seat) is no longer importing them. The MCP is a wonderful seat, with all the European safety features and extras that many domestic car seats don't have. Like the the Britax Roundabout it has EPS foam, no twist straps, built in lock-offs and it has the ability to be reclined on the fly, so when your baby is sleeping you can simply recline it. It really is the perfect seat for a FF toddler IMO.

The good news is you can get the MCP from a few places on line and maybe from a B%M store. It is still available at http://www.babylove.com/cgi-bin/SoftCart.exe/scstore/p-CAR-02-598.html?L+scstore+gayu1215+1040503781 for $119.

Someone posted on the Parents Place car seat board that they got one at BuyBuyBaby for $99 which is an incredible bargain because the MCP was originally well over $200. The other thing about the MCP will be its date of manufacture will be late 99 or up to Aug 2000 which was when they stopped being imported, but this isn't so much of an issue because the car seats have a life of 8 years. Also Cosco still has replacement parts if necessary. The MCP is very popular in Europe and is still manufactured for the European market.

Does anyone know the measurements for the carseat?? I have heard that it is very large. Any seat on the market that it compares to size wise? It sounds like a great seat, avail at a great price. How is the padding? I think I plan on getting this seat, or the Graco Comfort Sport. The head slumping is always such a problem. Thanks!:)

One other new model can also recline front-facing without reinstalling the seat, but you have to use a LATCH installation to do this. This is the Britax Expressway ISOFIX, and it has many of the same features as the Roundabout and Priori. I have a review here:

I bought one of those head rests (like infants use, but bigger) for Ds when we switched him forward & it made all of the difference.

Why not just turn her Rearfacing again? As long as she's under 30 pounds and has at least an inch of seat shell above her head, it is MUCH safer to be rearfacing than forward facing, and sounds like she'd be more comfortable, too. http://www.cpsafety.com/articles/extendedrf.aspx

We turn our daughter rf and ff depending on who's taking her and DS places. I drive with both rearfacing and DH drives with just DS rearfacing. DD has never had a problem switching back and forth. In fact I have a harder time when she is forwardfacing, because she tries to get into brothers seat. Hope she enjoys being rearfacing again.
