If you are a USAA member, USAA provides $25 rebate for car seats. You can get up to 3 per year. This is not advertised anywhere on their website or in any informational packets. You have to call them at 1-800-531-8111.

An insurance company -- www.usaa.com I don't think you can get the rebate if you aren't a member. And you can't become a member if you are not in the armed services or dependent on someone who is.

The Fields mention this in the book, but if you aren't familiar USAA, I can see why you'd miss it.

You can also join USAA if your parents were in the armed services. Both my father and FIL were in the service, so even though DH and I are not, we qualify for the insurance. However, our children will not qualify unless they join the service. It is a great company if you qualify - we're saving a ton of money, even after buying a new car.

Thanks for the info! I just got my rebates in the mail yesterday.
Does anyone know if they will rebate for a carseat purchased of off ebay?
I have the Paypal receipt, credit card receipt, and a copy of the auction to submit. Just wondering. Don't want to waste the rebate if not. Thanks for any info.

You don't have to wait until the birth. I just left that information out - may have put my due date in. But I got my rebate check already.

My one question - we did get one car seat as a shower gift. Have the gift receipt, but that's it. I suppose that wouldn't work, would it?

Hmmm. We recieved the Roundabout as a gift, too, but it was from my parents. So they were able to provide the actual receipt for it. Not sure on that one though. Good luck, and thanks for the info!

I just got off the phone with USAA. They said the receipt needed to show the purchase amount. I'm sure that the store where the seat was purchased from wouldn't mind issuing a receipt with the amount on it. If you have any questions, you can call 1-800-531-8100 ext. 8-7777. I got an answering machine and left a message. I was really surprised when my call was returned in less than 2 hours!!!!!
I think that I will be able to get a refund from the ebay purchase. She only asked that I not send in too much info as it gets messy for them to process the rebate. Hope this helps anyone out there.

HMMM...I have another question. I was just looking at the rebate form and it has a space for safety seat one and safety seat two. Does this mean that you can get 2 $25 rebates while only using one form? Has anyone been able to do this? I don't want to put 2 seats on the same rebate and only get $25 when I could just use 2 seperate rebates. It would be fabulous if you could get $50 from 1 rebate form. Thanks for any help!!!

I'm planning to use the one form for both car seats, but haven't done it yet!

Hi,

Do you know if you have to have your car insurance from USAA to get the rebate or just be a member?

Thanks,

I think that you just have to be a member, but call the number that I listed above to find out.

FYI, the discount is only $20 per carseat now, and they will only allow a total of two rebates, period. Still a nice thing to have, but not quite as nice as it once was!

Oh bummer! It used to be at least one was a FULL rebate...of course, that was when I was in college.
I've owned 28 seats and never even applied for ONE rebate, lol.

That's weird. We have life insurance through USAA. The logo looks the same and I'm guessing it's the same company. Neither of us has had military service but both our fathers were in the Army, but not career military. I don't remember them asking about us being military when we got the life insurance but it's been 6 years or so.

But if your parents are members, they can submit claims too. I am having my parents submit the claims for our 2 new seats since we have already claimed our three! :)

If your parents were in, then you probably qualify for the car insurance and other financial services...especially since you have the life insurance already. It's an excellent company, and worth calling to see if you qualify for car insurance, too (especially if you are reasonably good drivers...their rates are awesome)

I finally called for the USAA form and was disappointed to discover that in addition to the decrease in rebate amount, you can now only get one car seat rebate per named child/grandchild, and two total per household (we've bought 4 seats for one child, so far, and she's only 2!) Plus, the seat has to be purchased in the last 12 months, so don't put off calling like I did... Also, note that you do have to call -- it's not on their web site.
