I'd like to get a 2nd carseat for my husband's car. We have the Roundabout now in my car and I love it! But I want something cheaper for his car. She is RARELY in his car. Maybe 1x a month.

Any suggestions?

I hope somebody answers your question, because I need an answer too! I am pretty sure that our Fisher Price Grow with Me seat that has a tether won't work in an airplane seat for my 2 y.o. DD when we fly in the fall. I was hoping to get some info on an inexpensive but good seat that is FAA approved, and could be our "travel" seat. I see inexpensive seats all the time but who knows if they are any good?! Hope you found an answer, I have some time for mine.

A nice 2nd car seat is the Graco ComfortSport. They range in price from $70-$90, I believe. You can use the seat rear-facing to 30 lbs. Depending on the cover, you may have extra storage pouches and a cupholder. The straps can be twisty and the harness adjuster lever gets buried in some back seats, which can be a minor problem. The Cosco Touriva is another low-cost seat with similar features to the ComfortSport. Look for the 5-point harness version of each seat, since a 5-point harness provides the best protection for a child (the Century Accel is the overhead shield version of the ComfortSport).

You may also want to look at some Evenflo models. I don't have much experience with them to comment, though.

The FP Grow With Me seat is FAA approved (there should be a sticker on the side of the seat that says so). Tether use is only mandatory in motor vehicles in Canada.

We have an Evenflo Triumph as a second seat to our Marathon. I love, love, love :) the memory harness and adjuster on the Triumph. It is super easy to use once you get the hang of it. Also, the Triumph has EPS foam, like the Britax seats, and the harness slots are adjusted from the front, rather than having to rethread them from the back. At $120, It's slightly more expensive than the ComfortSport, but the harness adjuster for the ComfortSport is really difficult to reach when the seat is installed rearfacing. The Evenflo's adjuster and the EPS foam helped push us toward the Triumph over the ComfortSport.

I think we purchased the seat from BRU with a 15% off TRU coupon, making it closer to $100.
