what is the proper way to dispose of a car seat that has been in a collision? our marathon was in the car when DH had an accident, luckily DS was not with him. our insurance is paying for a new seat.

TIA!

Since your child was not in the seat, what I would do is save the cover and straps, and foam, and HUGS and strap covers and chest clip, for "just in case" later. No force was exerted on them and they are not damaged. And what I've read a lot of techs recommend is to take a sledghammer or chainsaw to the seat to make it totally unrecognizable as a seat (one woman took the cover and straps off one of her old seats, and left the seats next to the trash, and within minutes someone had taken them...to use a a booster maybe? it's scary to think about!).
If you have plastics recycling in your town, they may take the shell, or just bag it up and toss it.
