Help! We just got our new car and are trying to install the Britax Galaxy in it. We are doing rear-facing in the center seat. Our car's manual says that we can use the LATCH anchors for the outboards if our car seat's straps will reach easily, and they do.

BUT it swings around quite a lot AND the recline is in super recline mode in order to get the level indicator to be level. I know DD is going to howl in that recline. It's way over 45 degrees.

Can anyone help?

Hello,

First, can you please include the year and model of your vehicle for reference?

Second, the seat is in tightly when it move an inch or less side-to-side and front-to-back when gripped at the base near the seatbelt routing or LATCH attachments. The top of the seat will move more.

If the seat still moves with LATCH, please try the seatbelt for installation. Use whichever system results in a better fit. If neither is a good fit, then you should install the carseat in an outboard position if the fit is better there.

Next, use of the rear-facing tether may also help stabilize the seat, and allow you to use a lesser setting for the recline. The manual has some information on how to do this, and you certainly do not want to exceed 45 degrees.

Finally, if none of this helps, please visit a local technician for a free inspection! You can find one with the resources at http://www.seatcheck.net . Good luck!
