Hi Folks--

I'm heading out for my first grocery shopping trip with my 3 week old. I was planning on putting his infant car seat on the shopping cart. However, I just saw in the owner's manual that I'm NOT supposed to do that. What am I supposed to do??????

Thanks!
Anita

I know is says not to do it. We did it. We just made sure that the seat fit on there securely, and we never left it. The other option is to put the carseat in the basket part and put your groceries in the seat part, but that doesn't work if you have a lot of stuff to get. You have to do what makes you feel safe.

I had no idea you weren't supposed to do that --- I do it all the time and have never had a problem. I just make sure that the car seat clips onto the shopping cart. The red hook thing in the back should clip onto the back of the seat part of the cart. Hope that makes sense!

Shoot, I've been more worried about somebody snatching the baby while he's in the cart than it tipping over or something!

I also put the SnugRide in the shopping cart seat. It works better on some carts than others though. You just have to be careful. It *isn't* the safest thing in the world, but many people do it. Another option would be to get some kind of baby carrier (sling, pouch, etc.) and wear the baby in that while shopping.

I had a hard time clipping my SnugRide onto the cart at my grocery store (and at BRU), so I always put the SnugRide in the big part of the cart. It's much safer, but there wasn't much space for groceries. I used the rack on the bottom of the cart for food. Good luck.

LOL! I remember my first trip out with my ds!

What I did with my dd (didn't figure this out until she came along), was to put her seat in sideways in the top part of the basket. I don't know if the SnugRide will fit that way (I used a Fisher Price Stay in View and it also depends on the store cart), but my seat wedged in there nicely and I was never concerned about it falling off the top of the cart.

I was also able to hang her seat over the big basket of certain carts, so I still had lots of storage space in the cart. Again, I just put her seat sideways and it fit snugly on the sides of the cart. I wouldn't do it if it slid down at all or felt wobbly.

The most important thing to remember is to *never* loosen the harness or remove the harness from the baby while he's in the seat. Make it a rule. That's his only protection when he's on top of the cart and even when it's on the ground, a baby can be strangled by a loose harness.

Good luck on your trip!

Honestly, putting the seat on top of the cart made me way too nervous. I always put it in the big basket part or, better yet, wore my little guy in a sling. He's 8 mths and we still do our shopping with him in a sling.

I did and still do the same thing. It seems much more secure sideways.

Thanks for the input.

On the first trip, I put it in the seat, but it didn't feel all that secure. next time, I'm taking my husband and we're going to see which way feels most secure. I like the sideways idea. And I'll take my sling just in case none of those work. I like the sling! I just am still trying to figure out how all this works!!!

Thanks!
