My 4 month old is 26 1/4 inches ( we had our 4 month checkup yesterday)
Well she is outgrowing her graco snugride and I need to get her a convertable car seat.
What do you recommend? We are flying southwest in Oct so it needs to not be too wide to fit on a southwest plane.

Any seat that is aircraft approved (which is all convertibles) should fit fine on any airplane (there are some exceptions, but southwest is just 737's and you shouldn't have a problem).
Some seats to consider include: Britax Marathon or Wizard or Roundabout, Evenflo Triumph, Graco ComfortSport, and Cosco Touriva (those are sort of in descending order of price and popularity, they are all fine choices as long as they fit your car, your child, your budget, and are the 5-pt harness model).
If you have any more specific questions, fire away :)

I am considering one of the Britax seats but when I called the airline -southwest they said that the seat is 17 inches wide so it seems to me that the Britax seats would be too wide for southwest planes.
Has anyone flown southwest recently and what convertible seat did you use?

The seat cushion itself is 17 inches. The base that sits right on the seat cushion for the Britaxes, for example is only about 11 inches wide, so the base fits fine. Just raise the armrest up if you have to, but the widest part of the Britaxes are above the level of the armrest, I believe...so you might end up with your arm pressed against the side of the car seat, but it will fit just fine :)
