I have seen parents using a shopping cart pad at the supermarket to keep baby safe in the baby seat and keep their hands off the metal. In BRU, the average user rating for the one they sell is only 2.5 stars out of 5. Is it just this particular brand, or is this item a waste of money?

TIA

I'm not sure which one you saw on Amazon, but this one is completely awesome http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009VE5J/002-2571894-6404832?v=glance
If you haven't found a local used baby gear/consignment shop, like Once Upon A Child, I would find one and start keeping an eye out for a used one of these, or register for it.
A friend of mine has one of these Floppy Seats and started using it when her baby was about 4 or 5 months old, and she really loves it.
:) (They didn't have them when MY kids were babies!)

There are a number of places which sell shopping cart covers. I got mine at covers4kids.com and highly recommend them.

Also try:
http://www.kidsurplus.com/clnsunf.html
http://www.babyalacart.com/
http://www.snazzybaby.com/Snaz/allproducts.html

I'm sure there are other places as well.

I really like having one, mostly because it keeps baby in and safe. The covers4kids one has a toy loop, which keeps toys in as well, and has several pockets.

I love my Floppy cart cover. It's like a big comforter...and my baby can sleep in the cart too. (sideways--very cute) It's nice that all the germy parts of the cart are completely covered. She chews on everything...especially the waist straps, which the floppy has it's own. Anyway, whichever one you choose, make sure it's padded. It's a nice things to have.

My mom bought us one I think it was only about $10 at Marshalls - it's the one with the animals on it - and I love it! It's so colorful, it keeps her distracted from looking for all the metal. We also use it in restaurants with a high chair. Definitely worth it!

My friend got us one for DD and I LOVE IT!!!! I use it all the time!! It is a big fluffy one and looks so cozy.... I would definately get one!! I think she ordered it online from a women who makes them out of her house, it's more ike a comforter than a cart cover.

I just ordered one from a lady on Ebay.... angelynrose. Someone here recommended her, I haven't gotten mine yet, but I am excited! Cost a little less than the Floppy Seat, but way cuter, and comes with a pillow and tote bag...

We just got a new baby specialty store in our town (that also sells online) - they carry a variety of shopping cart covers....

I bought mine almost 3 years ago from http://www.cleanshopper.com/ and am currently using it for DS #2. I like it a lot.

I posted this on an identical thread @ the Carriers forum so I'll paste it here:

I second checking out the diaper bags forum. You should do a search there though b/c I don't remember seeing anything recently and there were some really cute pictures and great extensive reviews posted there.

I also saw the FloppySeat @ TJ Maxx for $19.99. I'm not sure how much it is @ BRU.

I should warn you that there's a site out there that has "high-end" silky fabric seats for over $100 -- they've had some customer service & quality issues. You'd be better off getting the similar fabric (probably at a discount/coupon from JoAnn's) and send it to one of these WAHM sites and some of them will even give you a discount for sending in your own fancy fabric! (I try to support WAHMs so that's just my preference anyway)

That said, the WAHM sites I see mentioned most at the diaper bags forum are SewCuteBoutique and Covers4Kids. I did some research myself on this and here's what I came up with. They're all varying prices so you'll have to check on that. According to the reviews some are padded more than others, depending on your preference, and some come with coordinating pillows and/or totes, which is nice.

If you sew, here's this site:

Hope this helps! Good luck! If you get one, be sure to post your cute pictures!

www.BurdickBaby.com (http://www.burdickbaby.com/seatcovcomch.html) has a really cool comparison chart of five of the "commercial" seat covers (Buggy Bagg, Baby A La Cart, Clean Shopper, Cart Comforter, and Floppy Seat). Her prices are competitive and she's really nice to talk to if you have any questions. Some of them also have individual websites (like Baby A La Cart) who will do custom covers if you send fabric.

We have the clean shopper that we picked up at TJMaxx for $20 dollars. I just saw it there again last week.

I love the Snazzy Baby http://www.snazzybaby.com

It's gorgeous and baby looks like a princess sitting up in it.

That said, I didn't use it as often as I thought I would. Once she could sit up well, she doesn't really touch the handle anyway. And we don't very often shop with her, one of us goes and the other stays home with her.
