View Full Version : I was rear-ended - How do I determine if my car seat is damaged?

My son wasn't in the seat (or the car) and there doesn't appear to be damage to my car (or the car that hit me - my neck is another story!)

So, was my seat compromised? How/where would I get it checked?

TIA!

Here are a good set of guidelines to follow to determine if your seat is still safe to use

http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/childps/ChildRestraints/ReUse/RestraintReUse.htm

And it would be a good idea to call your carseat maker to see if they have any other "final word" on whether they approve of still using it. My gut feeling is that it should be fine, it sounds like there was no more force on the seat or seatbelts than you put in it when you installed it, probably.

Sorry about your neck! I know it doesn't take much of a bump to leave a neck aching for weeks :P
