Is it true that I don't need to be making the seat level as per the level lines on the side?

My son is almost 7 months old and almost outgrown his infant seat, and I am trying to install his convertible seat rear-facing :) I'm in Canada and apparently there isn't anywhere to get the seat installed by a professional. We got the Alpha Omega Elite - and I heard those lines are for if you are installing for a newborn - opinions?

How do I know if it's reclined enough for him if I don't use the lines?

Thanks!

You can kind of eyeball it (the recline) and make sure his head doesn't flop forward when he's sleeping (side to side is ok, you just don't want the head flopping forward onto his chest)...here's a page that helps:

I find that seat installs a lot better when you take the base off, so check the manual for how to do that, and you might have an easier time installing it (as you tighten the seatbelt up, just push down on the seat...push the seat, then push the back to make it reclined...you can just kind of "work it" so it's right). If you are using a lap/shoulderbelt to install, then using the locking clip may also be good, though it takes quite a few tries to get it right...it should be illustrated in the manual, and this page helps:
http://www.carseatsite.com/lockingclips.htm

Hope that helps!

Oh, and you DO have "CRST"s in Canada...though I'm at a loss as to where you would find them...we have a few who post here and might chime in!
