View Full Version : Carseat on Airplane...

We have flown with Simon several times and always gotten him a seat. We were using our Britax Companion. We haven't flown since we switched him to his Roundabout and Wizard 2 months ago though. I am flying alone with him in August. As of right now he's 20 lbs and almost 28 inches, so he should still fit in his Companion for the trip, but I'm worried that he'll hate it in the car when we get there, so I'm toying with taking the Roundabout.

What I'm wondering is this.

We live in a smallish city. Every plane out of here is a regional jet size. The Companion barely fits and of course irritates the passenger in front of us (no reclining). Will the Roundabout fit rearfacing? If not, is it a big deal to have him forward facing on an airplane?

And does anyone use the GoGoBabyz wheels? I'd rather just check my stroller in a travel bag if I do take the roundabout...I have a direct flight and I can take a sling.

Buy him a seat and take the Roundabout.

Karen (stillplayswithbarbies) takes her Marathon on many different type of planes, including a regional jet, installs it rearfacing, and has never had a problem.

Frankly, the fact that the person in front of you cannot recline is not your problem. Don't let the flight attendants tell you that it is. Your only concern is your sons's comfort and safety.

Yep, I agree with Deb. Take the Roundabout. As long as it is not the old style with the bigger base, it will fit just like my Marathon does.

Oh and don't bet on the person in front of you not being able to recline. I have had some people use their feet to brace on the bulkhead wall and push until they can recline, pushing my Marathon back as they do so that it is way upright. I, of course, pushed back.

You paid for the seat and you are following the rules of the airline. It is the airline's problem if the person can't recline, not your problem.

If you do a search here you can find the thread I posted of pictures of my Marathon on a regional jet.

Edited to add - DON'T check your stroller! It will get thrown around with luggage on top of it and more likely to get broken. Push your stroller up to the gate and gatecheck it. Gate checked things go in last and come out first and are usually strollers and are taken care of better than with the regular luggage.
