Help!! GracoSnugride installation in Nissan Maxima (pre LATCH)???

We cannot figure out how to install our Graco Snugride carseat base into the car.....it seems straigh forward, but all three seats in the back have shoulder belts. The instructions show to use the metal locking clip on the part of the seatbelt that has the actual locking devise, but if we do that, the shoulder harness pulls up on the base and tips it sideways no matter how tight we pull it--- the top part of the shoulder harness isn't locking (like when you brake....)
I'm not sure if this makes sense, but any advise would be helpful! We're going to bring the car in to be inspected next week, but as of right now, they're going to have to install it for us!

Hi Emilie. When you install the locking clip, you put it right next to the latchplate after you've pulled the seat belt as tight as you can get it (you don't want to lock the seat belt, though, so don't pull it out all the way). The locking clip allows the shoulder belt to stay loose so that it won't pull up on the side of the base and tip it up. Here's more info.:
