Well, the pricing policy that was supposed to go into affect today seems to have been pretty anti-climactic. A quick scan of Albeebaby, BabyAge, and BabyUniverse shows the prices unchanged. I ordered a new RA from Albees for our second car the other day assuming the price would be retail today if I waited. What's the real deal? Are there just no discounts on the new patterns?

Yep, I did a quick check today and found the same thing.

All that hype for nothing.

Nope, they are still on sale at Babyage too. The main page for carseats looks like this with the MA at $249:
http://www.babyage.com/c_180_carseats_convertible.aspx

and then when you click through to the MA, for example, the price is still $194.99:

Here's another cool loophole that I just found:

I finally decided to buy the RA, but I wasn't crazy about any of the fabrics, except for the new Aloha pattern (and I wasn't completely sold on that one, either). However, I also didn't feel like shelling out $50 more just for that fabric. So I went to eBay, just to see what the prices were, and guess what I found? There's a seller who does custom covers for the RA, MA, Wizard, etc. She's only done 11 transactions, but she's got 100% positive feedback and has samples of her work up on each item. The seller's user name is "sew*adorable".

So I bought my RA in Gray MicroDot (worst case, it's boring but will match the gray interior of my RAV4) for $169 from BabyUniverse and plan on doing a custom cover through this eBay seller. This should be a helpful tip for those who don't want any of the velvety fabrics that Britax offers, since they can be hot, especially during this hot and humid summer!

Hope this helps,
Molly :-)

It is not recommended to buy an aftermarket seat cover. It is likely not flame retardent (like the Britax covers) and in the event of a crash, it will void your Britax warranty and release Britax from any liability should your car seat fail.

I did the same thing on Sunday night. I see now that New Blues is back up to $249 on Albee Baby, but other fabrics are still being discounted.

Gosh, it looks like I got one of the last ones. At least I have no email saying it's out of stock, so I assume it's coming.

I had the strangest experience. When I started looking for the RA in grey microdot, it was $149 at Albeebaby and $169 everywhere else. Then since I was procrastinating, it went up to $169. So I was about to order last Friday at that price, when it suddenly went back down to $149 for one day since the next day it was back up again!! I am so thrilled with that deal. It should be arriving tommorrow and I can't wait.

Yeah, they are cute, but aren't up to federal safety standards (and don't endure the testing the Britax covers go through for abrasion withstanding and UV light baking to make sure they hold up). Fortunately, covers are available separately after a time direct from Britax, and resale values are terrific, so you'll only be out 10-30 bucks for a second cover if you buy it and resell it (really good covers can make BIG profits, too... so who knows? Maybe Aloha will be a new Flower Power...their old green flowery one that resold for $80 on ebay!)

Britax just sent a letter to their retailers with a revised internet policy. Retailers have until August 8th to comply. Retailers are still required to sell at MSRP, but there no longer appears to be the restriction on offering free shipping.
