Does anyone know if Seattle cabs are required to have lap belts/shoulder belts? (So I can install my car seats, of course...)

I'm accustom to broken down cabs with no seatbelts, so here's hoping...

Looks like they are supposed to be inspected, at least http://www.ci.seattle.wa.us/consumeraffairs/fstaxi.htm
If they don't work, you can cram the car seat in there rearfacing and pray (Well, that's what *I'd* do, if push came to shove and there were no other feasible choices like waiting for the next cab or taking a big, safe bus).
Good luck!

All of the Seattle cabs I have been in are fairly new Ford Crown Victorias ala police cars. They have lap and shoulder belts in the back. I have never seen a cab here with broken seatbelts.

As a note, Seattle Cabs are not allowed to transport litlte children and infants without seats and boosters. So no cab exceptions like NYC here. You can be ticketed. Seatbelt and seat issues in Seattle are permissible primary reasons for stopping someone (ie if a policeman notices that you don't have a seatbelt on or a child is unrestrained they can pull you over without having another reason for the traffic stop). A mom in my moms group I am leading was just ticketed.

I caught cabs all the time when I lived in Seattle and I was never in a cab without a working seatbelt. Like Katie said, most of the cars were in very good condition.
