I'm guessing this has been asked before but I just did a search and can't quite find the answer I'm looking for...

DS has his four-month checkup today and he is 16 lbs 13 oz and 27 inches long. I found some specs that say the Snugride should be used up to 20 lbs and 26 inches--does he need to meet both requirements, or as soon as he has surpassed one (in this case the height), I should no longer be using the Snugride because it's not safe?

I've also read that there are some Snugrides with higher limits. How do I know if I have one of those?

I just did a better search and found many posts! So I'm guessing it's time to move on to the Britax asap.

Yep, the stickers on the side of your seat will tell you the height and weight limits. Also, as long as he has at least an inch of seatback over the top of his head, he's ok in that seat (if under 20 pounds)...if he has less than an inch of seat over his head, you need a new seat *today*, if he has more, you can shop around for a bargain. Don't worrry at all about feet hanging over the edge...it's absolutely not dangerous or an indication of outgrowing the seat.

Thanks Julie,

It's getting to be a tighter fit, but he doesn't seem all that close to the edges which is why I hadn't really been too concerned before (I knew he was getting close, but I thought I had a little time). His feet aren't hanging over the edge and there are at least a couple of inches over his head, I'm not sure how he can be so long and still fit, but hey, I'll take it. I actually already have his next car seat (a shower present), we were actually just shopping for a new car to put it in since we only have one of those car seats (it'll stay in one car and we'll both drive that one for baby-related things).

Thanks again for your help.
