>>>most children can remain rear facing until at least around age 2 and some even beyond. This 1- to 2-year-old gap is the most crucial time<<<

(Just ignore the *horrible* picture on the front page of the UNinstalled, probably expired, possibly recalled, Evenflo Joyride, ok?)

"The study also found a small but not statistically significant benefit for facing rear in frontal crashes."

???? Huh ???? (Quote from the middle of page one.)

Good article, but I just don't really get that quote!

Oh, I read that wrong at first, I thought they said it was better to be RF in a rear crash... but hmmmmm... now I'm wondering!
Lemme ask my peeps what they think ;)

I was surprised by that, too, but took it to mean that the major benefit was in side-impact collisions, and that front impacts showed some benefit, but not enough to be statistically significant (meaning they can't prove that it wasn't just coincidence that the rear-facing ones did slightly better). I thought the benefit in frontal collisions would have been very significant, just based on what I've seen in the crash test videos.

Well, since my 3 yo might have to turn ff this week (getting a new scale today to double-check), the article at least gave me a little comfort that after 2yrs the difference isn't as big (still very glad she's been rf this long, though :)).
