Find out the month in 2001, and then it'll be the same month in 2007...you get six years with Britaxes :)

WOuld that apply even if it was like new in the box, never used? Just curious!

Nope...it's 6 years from Date of Manufacture...mainly because standards and labels and stuff change...and little bits and pieces get redesigned, and it's hard for companies to support their products for much longer than that (Fisher Price gave us 8 years, but ran out of parts after about 4 and had to issue a lot of full refunds...so it's not so much a 'the plastic will crumble' issue, as more of an economic and laws-change-sometimes one)

A friend lent me a graco infant seat. It was bought in 2001, but only used with her 2nd daughter about 2 years ago. Do you think it is still safe to use? Not sure of manufacture date, just know when was bought.
thanks!

You really need to find out the DOM. It will be on a sticker on the seat or stamped on the seat somewhere.

Lots of older SnugRides had recall issues, so it's important for a variety of reasons to know the DOM.

The sticker says manufactured 04/12/01. The seat also says not to use after December 2007. How can I check on recall issues?

Go to this website:
http://www.gracobaby.com/customerservice/recall.aspx?categoryID=1

You will need to locate the model number of your seat, it will be on the seat somewhere...possibly near the Date of Manufacture.

Then look for it on this site, if you find it the seat has been recalled. If that's the case you need to have it repaired before using. If you don't find it, you're in the clear and use that seat for your baby and probably at least one more!(assuming it's not in an accident during the next 2 years)

Thank you so much. I just checked and saw that there was a recall on it. I will have to check with my friend to see if she knew of it. Will also check w/ Graco.
