Julie - You've posted a few times about the Alpha Omega failing the crash test without the top tether and that the seat has not been recalled. Do you have a link to the information about this? Is this a recent thing or an older problem? Someone on another board posted recommending an AO Elite (she has two AOs, one is an OHS, yikes) and I responded with a recommendation against the seat, but she'd like more info about the crash test failure.

I'll look for the link to the test results page, but would you believe that NHTSA told Cosco to re-test the seats, and Cosco supposedly did and just told NHTSA everything is hunky dory, don't worry about the failures, we trust you. It's perplexing, how government can be so complacent sometimes. The AOE hasn't been tested yet, and it's a different design, I'm sure it's fine, but personally I'd take the base off and not use it FF unless it's top tethered (oh, yeah, Cosco tethers sometimes break, but they still do their job...THAT's another head scratcher for me, but don't mention it :X)

Here's the link:

(I think Julie has it printed out since it's impossible to read online, so I thought I'd save her the effort of finding it again!)

Are these results only about failure without tether? Too bad they don't list what it is testing at the top of each page. I think I saw Evenflo Chase in two places, one said fail, one said pass?

It's *really* hard to decipher... the Chase probably failed for labeling (or something relatively unimportant, at the top of the page), and passed for the dynamic testing (the bottom part of the page).
Right, the AO/Summit only fail withOUT the tether...the head flew about an inch too far forward (it already is allowed 32 inches from a point behind the seatback without the tether, 28 inches with the top tether...).

Thanks for posting that, Ilana...I *really* need to organize my favorites list better! lol.

Thanks Julie and Ilana! That was exactly the info that I needed! I was able to figure it out!
