I have a Fisher Price Safe Embrace convertible carseat that I am still using with my granddaughter and as soon as I decide on another one for her, I will use it for my 6 month old grandson. I have never had any trouble with it. It is easy to install and easy to use and comfortable. I sometimes have to use an Evenflo Chase and while it is OK, I really don't like the strange harness adjustment set-up.

What is the story about why they quit making them?

Too bad the company who actually manufactured them (I'm sure they used an outside source) couldn't have continued with such a good product.

Money money money makes the world go round, world go round, world go round, that jingle jangle sound....

Lucky you get 8 years with those before they expire...I just installed one with a mom, and it expires in February, and I made her promise she'd keep using it RF till then, and then get a new seat (the baby would be like 16 months then, so of course she didn't want to RF longer...)...boy, that was a NICE seat to install and show her how to use... :).

But yeah, money was the reason they got out of it...they had THE best seats, with such innovative features...but not enough padding! I looked at one for my own baby, and appreciated the extra safety features, but bought an Evenflo Medallion because it was SO much cushier! ;) I wonder if that was enough to keep sales slow enough that they just really couldn't make money?

I hear you. I have a Fisher Price Stay-In-View and, though I have to double check the date (it's in storage), it should be good until 2007 or 2008, which is great, because I can use it with my son who is due in February, but unfortunately not if we have a third child. Also I'd love to have another base for it but not enough to pay $100 for one on ebay. =P

I love my FPSE's. One is still in use for my RF son. My 3 year old's FF seat was getting too short, so I passed it on to my nephew and took their Scenara (which is much higher over the head and has a slightly higher top slot). I still have a couple more years left before expiration.

Their RF lockoffs were tons nicer, stronger-seeming and sooooo much easier to use than the MA ones. And, I like the wider straps. Now, those things are non-twist!! :-) Finally, I really miss the long crotch strap. sigh.

Honestly, I never thought of them as being super un-padded, though I guess they are less so than the MA. We've put a LOT of miles on FPSE's and now on the MA and both kids ride well no matter where they are. I'm sure some kids are sensitive to lack of padding, but 9 times of out 10 I think the parent cares way more than the child. LOL.

I just checked eBay (to see if I should sell mine LOL) and see that a base went for $5 and a whole seat went for $34! I guess I should have sold it before the demand dried up.

Love that seat. Just love it. Everywhere we went, people stopped to ask what it was and where to get one.

Karen-- you may still have a chance on Ebay. Here's one that sold 2 days ago for $61. http://cgi.ebay.com/Fisher-Price-Stay-In-View-Infant-Car-Seat-Carseat-LOOK_W0QQitemZ7723778377QQcategoryZ66696QQssPageNa meZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
Maybe the one that sold for $34 was a 3pt harness or didn't have a very good description or photos.

I sold mine over a year ago (the same one that is pictured-- 5pt harness, blue and while checks) for $75 + $15 for shipping if I remember correctly. I think lots of pictures (from every angle) and a good title is key.

I am still in love with this seat. My 5 yr old granddaughter was in it as her main seat since 2001 (DOM 3-21-01) and it went straight to my car for my almost 1 yr old grandson when she outgrew it and I bought her a Marathon. I'm so glad it is still good for a few more years! And money is not so much an issue. I can afford a Roundabout (bought one for his mom's car) or Marathon but why, when this is such a great seat!
